Description
Third in picking order and third, as well, in our theoretical Chardonnay line-up. If GinGin is Sophia Loren, The Fall really is Brigitte. Year after year, an undeniably pretty wine that is just so very easy to love. Jasmine perfume on the nose and an enticing sweetness and sandalwood, spiced oak balance on the palate with just the wispiest notes of grapefruit pith. Especially in a beautiful vintage – which 2022 was in spades – this wine comes in rounded, voluptuous, soft, and fleshy but in jazz-singer kind of way. What you see is generous but also tight and structured. A true study in Chardonnay excellence.
100% Carey Gully Chardonnay, handpicked, wild-yeast fermentation, whole bunch pressed to barrel, some bâttonage, 10 months in 25% new French oak, unfiltered and unfined, only 100 dozen made.
95 points James Suckling September 2023
